Judy Kennedy

You can’t fabricate who you are as an artist, you first have to be comfortable with yourself then you find your voice. After years of refining my artistic voice while raising a family of four daughters, I have settled into painting with great confidence and expression, creating large-scale canvas paintings.

I focus on capturing a mood in my paintings
then express it with light, poses, textures and sensual colors. My large still lifes with landscapes
are settings in which you want to wander around.
Conjuring up both memories of where you have been and fantasies of where you would like to go.

I layer my acrylics in thin glazes, color upon color,so they show through each preceding layer giving a deep rich glow to the paintings. I intensify the colors, pushing my light and shadow areas. My basic perspective is based in reality but emphasized closest to the viewer, using a trompe l’eil effect and inviting them into the painting. ~ Judy Kennedy, 2011
